Products such as frozen pizzas will contain less fat, salt and sugar in the future. This was agreed by the Federal Minister of Agriculture and the food industry. The ingredients will be reduced from 2019.
By the end of the year, the industry associations are to work out a concept with the ministry. According to the agreement in principle, the industry should have six years from 2019 to achieve the targets set.
However, economic arguments should also be taken into account in the specifications. For example, the interests of smaller manufacturers must be taken into account, and the taste and consistency of food must continue to appeal to consumers. In addition to reducing sugar, fat and salt, possible steps also include reducing the size of packaging. Special attention is paid to foods that are specifically aimed at children and teenagers.
